John Travolta and Nicolas Cage play cat and mouse with each other in this over the top playground of a movie in Face/Off. As far as Nicolas Cage’s role in this movie is concerned, he plays a terrorist name Caster Troy who murdered Special Detective, Sean Archer’s (Travolta) son by accident in a assassination attempt, this leads to Travolta wanting to bring justice to Cage and all his terrorist ploys. One of those ploys being that he has bomb planted somewhere in the city and is going to go off after a few days and Cage’s brother who is in on it, is the only one can defuse the bomb. So this movie is a remake of the 1973 movie of the same name which was altogether inspired by David Pinner’s 1967 novel Ritual. The plot is centered around Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage), who is a conflicted cop when he learns from his ex-fiancee that his daughter is missing. She was believed to be last seen at a island where women have superiority over men. Once Cage arrives on the island, he notices that the people of the island are, well, just really weird. This is where the unintentional comedy really starts setting in, the movie is suppose to be a serious remake, but with the poor screenplay and uninspired acting, then you just throw Nicolas Cage on top of that, you have a recipe for . Certain scenes like where Cage is looking for his daughter and he has to blend in with this religious parade they’re throwing, so he dresses up in a bear suit, punches a woman in the face and demands to see where his daughter is at.
